COMPOSED, PRODUCED AND ARRANGED BY KERSTEN STEVENS AND
CHRISTIAN MCBRIDE

“I am so impressed by Kersten. She has a fantastic talent. I watch her play the violin, and I am like, wow - each time is a discovery. This girl is bad. You need to listen to HER, and you need to listen quickly!"
– Christian McBride

Beyond the notes
At its core, “Release The Grace” is a spiritual unveiling—a bold and soulful jazz performance that reclaims vulnerability as a source of power.
Composed and performed by genre-defying jazz violinist Kersten Stevens, and the masterful, 9x GRAMMY® winner Christian McBride, the track builds an emotional arc that speaks to the moment we let go—of fear, of ego, of expectation—and instead lean into grace. It’s not just a song. It’s a testimony.
What begins as an intimate melodic call expands into a sweeping improvisational exchange between violin and bass, where each phrase feels like a conversation between two artists who trust the moment. The result is a performance that’s both technically superb and emotionally disarming—rooted in jazz tradition, but unmistakably modern in its message and its reach.
Stevens, known as the “Queen of the Violin,” delivers a tone that is warm, raw, and arrestingly lyrical. Her phrasing honors the legacy of Black string improvisers while pushing the expressive possibilities of the violin into new territory. McBride, as always, brings both gravity and generosity—offering not just support, but a sense of sacred grounding. Together, they create a performance that is not only musically impeccable, but deeply felt.
“Release The Grace” is the sound of release, reckoning, and redemption. It is a meditation on what happens when two masterful artists meet at the intersection of faith, feeling, and freedom.

All About Jazz
“You feel the funk in her playing. You feel the soul. You feel the gospel, the Latin. She has it all!”
Gary Walker, 88.3FM WBGO JAZZ
"Imagine if the spirit of Marion Williams suddenly possessed jazz master Jean-Luc Ponty's violin, and you have some sense of what Kersten can do. She is a gift to music."
